After the heat, we had rain.

Gosh the heat was awful here in Adelaide and making it worse is a fire up in the Adelaide Hills. My heart goes out to those all affected. And grateful for the volunteers fighting the fire or helping to look after people and animals.

After the heat it was fantastic to have rain. Long time since I have seen rain  so heavy. We had just over 16 mil and the place is lovely and wet.

It was just so relaxing watching and listening to the rain. I took a chance and transplanted out some cos lettuces last night. Weather folks were pretty sure we were going to get rain.

Between the lighter rainfalls I harvested my basil and made a fresh new batch of pesto. Beats the bought stuff, hands down.

Welcome to my new blog

I've come full circle with blogging and having been gardening again for 4 years, thought it was time to crank up the old gardening blog. Shock horror, it said there was no blog from before, about gardening. So I thought a new blog, new title and a new way of gardening.

Why is it called the "Western Paddock"? Its in honour of my late dad, who used to grow his tomatoes on a 500 square mile sheep station, in the backyard. Dad would say he was off to see what the tomatoes were doing in his South Paddock. When I walk down to my vegie patch, I am heading west.

I've also been using raised garden beds now for the last 4 years. The old gardening area has returned to lawn and down the track, there is the option to put raised garden beds there if I run out of room in the Western Paddock.

Also got a dog now too. Her name is Matilda and she will be 6 this year. I got her after my dad died, due to my depression. Pat decided maybe a dog is what I need. So you will also read about her here as well. She is my shadow and gardening buddy.

I only have 4 ducks left, all the others including my gorgeous drake Bundy have passed away.

I posted this video up on YouTube the other day. This gives you a look at The Western Paddock.

There you have it, I'm back, with a fresh blog, fresh ideas and lots to learn with gardening in raised beds.
